Systems Solutions Inc., a national systems integrator, recently announced the availability of a turnkey email and collaboration server for businesses from SMBs to the Enterprise in partnership with Open-Xchange Inc., a leading open-source collaboration software vendor.
The complete hardware and software package combines an IBM xSeries server, the customer's choice of a Novell/SUSE or Red Hat server Linux distribution, and Open-Xchange 5 collaboration server.
Systems Solutions configures the server for maximum transparency on the customer side, using current email and collaboration set-up, plus any specific requirements. The package and its integration are meant to be a drop-in replacement for existing email/groupware setups such as Lotus Domino/Notes or Microsoft Exchange/Outlook.
Open-Xchange Server 5 provides the key messaging functions like email, calendaring, contacts, and task management along with such groupware functionality as document sharing, project tracking, user forums, and a knowledge base. Open-Xchange Server 5 can deliver these services to both "rich clients" such as Microsoft Outlook as well as most Web browsers and mobile devices.
"Open-source has established itself in organizations of all sizes," said Dan Kusnetzky, Open-Xchange's executive vice president of marketing strategy in a statement.
"This approach to development is highly responsive to changes to the environment. Systems Solutions brings together the best of breed open-source operating systems and collaboration software so customers experience a straightforward solution that is flexible and cost effective," he added.
Frank Basanta, System Solution's director of technology, said, "We find that many companies -- in the legal and financial markets especially -- require a powerful collaboration platform to handle their documentation, need for access to long histories of information and client confidentiality."
"By packaging Open-Xchange 5 with top software and hardware in a pre-configured server, customers now have a tool designed for efficiency and ease-of-use and able to scale with their businesses," added Basanta.
This is far from Open-Xchange's first system-integrator/VAR (value-added reseller) package. In an email interview, Kusnetzky said, " Open-Xchange has partners in each of the 40 countries it currently has customers. Working with resellers, integrators and other partners is a very important part of Open-Xchange's go-to-market strategy.
Complete turnkey solutions start at five users for $1,250 and go up to 200 users for $8,042. Seats can be added incrementally in blocks of five. The package is shipping now.
