Red Hat hires top channel exec

. . . keeping an eye on the penguin

Everyone in the channel business knows that Red Hat Inc. has never done all that well by its system integrator, value-added reseller, and solution provider partners. Things are about to change, however, with the hiring of Mark Enzweiler as its VP North American Channel Sales. Enzweiler is extremely well regarded in channel circles.

Enzweiler comes to Red Hat from Lenovo, where he served as VP of Global Channel Strategy and Sales. He left Lenovo as the PC vendor decided to make cutbacks in its channel management ranks and customer account representatives. Lenovo had announced in March that it would restructure the company. This move, in turn, led to the layoff of over 1,000 employees.

Before his turn at Lenovo, Enzweiler had spent 25 years with IBM. At IBM, he was VP of North American Channel Sales and Director of Global Sales. In addition, he had served as General Manager of Latin America, of the Personal Systems Group, and of the Global Chemical and Petroleum Industry Group.

Enzweiler will report to Ed Boyajian, Red Hat's VP of Strategic Alliances.

"Demand for Linux, JBoss, and open source solutions is accelerating. Our partners are an important part of this change as they are also shifting business strategies from proprietary platforms to Linux and open source as a way to better serve their customers," said Boyajian in a statement.

"Mark has experience building channel programs for two of the world's largest technology companies and has a keen understanding of what channel partners need to be successful. He's going to be a great asset to help Red Hat scale with the demand," Boyajian added.

"Red Hat is in a unique position to offer channel partners, and their end customers, true value and innovative solutions," said Enzweiler. "The opportunity for Red Hat is a relatively green field as partners are looking to move from proprietary software business to open source."

Red Hat's partners will be happy just to see Red Hat make a strong commitment to the channel by hiring a top-gun channel executive to run the Linux company's often-neglected channel programs.
